What
is the Maud Powell Music Festival?
Maud Powell
was a legendary violinist born in Peru, Illinois, in the late 19th
century who became known worldwide for her virtuosity. The Maud
Powell Music Festival celebrates her pioneering spirit and artistic
vision and is now entering its thirteenth season. It has grown from
a weekend of outdoor concerts to three weeks of fine arts events
ranging from folk music to opera and ballet performances. The Maud
Powell Music Festival combines the Illinois Valley's local talent
with that of visiting artists from around the country.
Artists from
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Colorado, Wisconsin,
Georgia, Ohio, Utah, California, Pennsylvania, New York, Brazil, Israel, Japan,
Taiwan and Italy have graced the stages, church sanctuaries, and
outdoor venues of the Illinois Valley to perform for audiences of
the Maud Powell Music Festival.
