Soprano
Carol
Shamory, soprano, received a B.M. in Education from St. Mary's
College (Notre Dame) and a M.M. in Applied Voice from Western
Michigan University. She was a scholarship student participating
in the Opera Training Program at the Aspen Music Festival, where
she studied voice with Adele Addison. Carol has also studied with
Wlodzimierz Belland, Marcella Faustman, and Susan Stevens and
has coached with Joan Dornemann, Nico Castel, and Ned Rorem.
She
has had the opportunity to sing under the direction of Peter J.
Wilhousky, Norman Dello Joio, Daniel Pinkham, Fiora Contino, Jorge
Mester, Kevin McMahon, and Philip Bauman. She performs a wide
variety of musical styles and repertoire.
Her
current vocal pursuits are centered in the Midwest, but she has
appeared as a soloist in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, and
Poland. Carol has performed extensively with the Indiana Opera
North, having sung the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana,
and has appeared with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra in
a performance of Strauss' Four Last Songs.
She
performed the role of Mother in Hänsel und Gretel at
the Rome Festival in Rome, Italy. Her Maud Powell Music Festival
credits include the roles of Liza in The Hard Years,
Elizabeth in The Sojourner, The Bird in Shepherds
of the Delectable Mountains, and she collaborated on the
score and wrote the libretto for last year's premiere performance
of Marilyn Monroe.
She
also writes poetry, is currently working on a novel, and has written
several pieces for organ (one published by Lorenz, Co.) and choral
works.
