Application Deadline: December 1, 2007
Opera Institute Application Form

The Maud Powell Music Festival is pleased to announce the inaugural season of its International Opera Institute for emerging young artists.Young professionals who are in the process of or have already completed their musical training are eligible to apply. The program will last for three weeks, allowing participants to study and present three operas in concert.

This year, the institute has tentatively chosen to present Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdink.

Each opera will be under the direction of a different musical director and several stage directors, providing students the unique opportunity to work with professionals within their fields.

These operas will be staged and fully costumed with piano accompaniment. In subsequent seasons, graduates of this program will be considered for roles in the Maud Powell Music Festival's well-established main stage program.

Participants will be cast in one leading role in at least one opera and will cover roles in others. As roles will be double cast (one cast as covers), participants will be expected to sing chorus parts when not performing a leading role.

Vocal training and coaching, master classes with established professionals, and career seminars will be included as part of tuition for the institute.
